A controlled vocabulary captures the richness of a great variety of terms, because it includes translations and synonyms. This information is consolidated in a unique ID (URI) for each concept. This is extremely beneficial to index information and retrieve content through browsing and searching.
Using a controlled vocabulary helps with search and discovery of information. LandVoc enables information providers to index content using their own words and be heard across the world.
Even if a user searches for the same concept using a different term than what was used to index (e.g. 'slums' and 'townships'), LandVoc has consolidated these synonyms or translations. Therefore, it bridges the language and culture gaps that prevent information to adequately flow in the land sector.
LandVoc can be integrated into repository systems and websites that publish any kind of information related to land governance.
You can also use it to find key phrases related to land governance and their translations and explore the different ways a concept is described in different contexts. It can also be used to connect to and exchange information with other databases with other vocabularies, as LandVoc is integrated within FAO's Agrovoc.
LandVoc is a partnership product, facilitated by the Land Portal Foundation. The vocabulary is edited and enriched by a community of partners. Are you interested to join the LandVoc editorial community? Please get in touch with us today!
